Dr. Marcin Sklad (Head of Department)

Why I work at UCR. I work at UCR because I like the international character, dedicated colleagues and students and the challenge of creating an entirely new educational institution.
What is interesting about my discipline? My disciplines are interesting because, besides academic usefulness, they teach important life skills, like critical and systematic thinking, reaching conclusions that are as objective as possible, skepticism and challenging status quo. The scientific study of our (social in my case) reality is in my opinion the main thing which may allow us to transcend our animal nature. Finally one of evolutionary theories claim that due to some funny birth giving related circumstances humans are apes that do not reach full intellectual maturity. Thanks to this, unlike mature apes, many of us never lose a childlike curiosity, and satisfying this curiosity is a source of a great pleasure to us. What can be a more fun subject than studying how to satisfy this need then?
