 Prof. Dr. Jeanne de Bruijn

Jeanne de Bruijn has her PhD Sociology from the Department of Social Sciences at Wageningen University Research and her MSc. Sociology from the University of Groningen.

Currently she teaches in the sociology track at University College Roosevelt: 

Prof. de Bruijn formerly served as Rector Magnificus and professor of Sociology at the University of the Netherlands Antilles (UNA) and earlier as professor in Sociology of Gender  at the VU University in Amsterdam and as associate professor at the University of Groningen. At UNA she erected a Social Science Department and bachelor and master programs on social work.

As a researcher, prof. de Bruijn has published on a various subjects over time, like on  Work, Care and Gender; Domestic Violence; Migration and Integration and Higher education in Small Island Development States. She supervised about 20 PhD and  received grants (from NWO, EU, CoE and several Government Departments) mostly around the theme: Work and Care; a Fulbright Scholarships for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and other scholarships at Stanford University and Washington University. She was editor of the journal International Sociology.

Current research is on Migration in the Caribbean, with local and Dutch SEI funding, and on ‘Domestic Violence care and justice chains in RCN” , supported by the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Safety. De Bruijn is researcher at the VU University Amsterdam in the Research program New Public Governance.

Prof. de Bruijn was member of UNICA (university presidents in the Caribbean), of the Council of Europe Taskforce on Parental leave, of the EU Dublin-Brussel steering committee on Equal Opportunities Policies in Collective Bargaining in the European Union member states, and member of various government future scenario committees, member of NVAO panels and external reviewer for NWO projects. She developed the National Care Policy Plan.

Currently, prof. de Bruijn is also head of the Board of Trustees (CASA clinics) and member of Board of Trustees of Bureau Youth Care Amsterdam.
