SSC 260 - Money, Banking and Finance

We study financial markets (stocks, bonds, derivatives) and financial institutions (commercialbanks and central banks). We address such questions as:

  • What does it take for an individual investor to beat the stock market?
  • Why banks are inherently fragile?
  • What do central banks do?
  • What causes financial crises?

Throughout the semester student teams participate in a business simulation - the Stanford Banking Game. Each team manages a virtual bank trying to maximize its share price.
