We study financial markets (stocks, bonds, derivatives) and financial institutions (commercialbanks and central banks). We address such questions as:
What does it take for an individual investor to beat the stock market?
Why banks are inherently fragile?
What do central banks do?
What causes financial crises?
Throughout the semester student teams participate in a business simulation - the Stanford Banking Game. Each team manages a virtual bank trying to maximize its share price.
