SSC 278 - Introduction to Public International Law

The course offers an introduction to the general principles of international law, its sources, its institutional organization and its ordering into different fields. It also pays attention to the creation and the modification of international law from a formal legal and social science perspective. Whilst the course covers the philosophical and sociological aspects of moving from a system of state sovereignty towards global law and global justice, it makes a strong distinction between formal legal and philosophical and socio-scientific approaches. The assignments include an extensive research paper, a moot court and case analysis. At the very least, the introduction covers the same material as ‘Public international law’ at Utrecht University.
